AUTHOR PRESENTATIONS:
I am a librarian and teacher, with fifteen years of experience, accustomed to working with students in grades preschool through sixth grade. Programs can be tailored to the needs of the school or bookfair and can include writing activities, songs, Powerpoints, poetry, puppets, and flannel board activities. I am available for in-person visits and Skype visits.
Zapato Power: Freddie Ramos Takes Off is a new chapter book for young readers featuring Freddie Ramos, a boy who receives a mysterious box with super-powered purple sneakers. From that day on, Freddie searches for ways to be a superhero. With comic book style illustrations, this lively story gives young readers an opportunity to consider what it would be like to have super speed. Can you be a hero and still go to elementary school? For Grades 1-4. |
Unite or Die: How Thirteen States Became a Nation aligns with curriculum and standardized tests on essential knowledge regarding the formation of the US Constitution and American government. Author talk presents the conflicts and compromises of the 1787 Constitutional Convention through colorful comics projected on a screen. Students participate in a Reader’s Theater format. For Grades 3-6. |
No English depicts a second grade girl who finds a creative way to bridge a language barrier with a new classmate from Argentina. Presentation includes ways of making newcomers feel welcome, poetry, and activities about friendship. Teacher’s Guide can be used as preparation or follow-up to author presentation. For Grades 1-3. |
Duck for Turkey Day was inspired by ESOL students who told me they ate holiday foods from their birth countries rather than traditional Thanksgiving fare. Author talk includes Thanksgiving activities and a celebration of cultural diversity in America. For Grades K-3. |
Ziz books. Four different programs available, depending on which Ziz book is chosen. All presentations feature the stuffed puppet Ziz, songs, and a flannel board building of the Ziz. Preschool through kindergarten. |
